Dr. Eidelman offers the latest in lip augmentation fillers: Juvederm Volbella. One of the country’s top injectors and trainers for the Allergan family of products, Dr. Eidelman uses Volbella to subtly fine tune, sculpt, accentuate the lips, contour the outer lip line or reduce vertical lip lines. Volbella is a hyaluronic acid-based gel specifically designed for the lips. Results can last up to 1 year in some patients and are intended to smooth lines or creases as opposed to providing volume. Patients describe the look as “pillowy,” soft, smooth, subtle, natural-looking. Often more than 1 treatment is necessary to achieve desired effect.
How long will Volbella last?
The longevity of the treatment depends on the product used, location, how your body absorbs the product. In most patients the correction that lasts approximately 12 months. Often, more than one syringe or treatment is needed to achieve full, desired result.
As with all filler products there is the possibility of swelling, bruising, redness, irritation, marks at the injection site. Itching and chapped lips have been reported. Immediately after treatment there may be swelling and firmness that could last up to 2 weeks or more but will then begin to soften. Most side effects are mild to moderate and resolve within 7-14 days. Tylenol may be taken for discomfort. Ice can be applied intermittently to reduce swelling.
Let your practitioner know if you have a history of herpes on the face as they may recommend taking an oral antiviral medication prior to treatment. Bruising risks can be minimized by avoiding aspirin, Advil, Aleve, Motrin, ibuprofen, ginkgo biloba, ginseng, concentrated garlic and alcohol for 1 week prior to treatment.
