Alopecia Areata are small round patches of hair loss and may be hereditary. In some people the patches grow back and correct themselves on their own but could persist for years. The cause of alopecia is unknown but we do know that the body’s immune system assaults the root of the hair leaving it unable to produce growth.
Typically, people see a few small patches on their head. A minority of patients could lose all the hair of the scalp (alopecia totalis) or lose body hair (alopecia universalis).
