Basal Cell Carcinoma

Basal Cell Carcinoma or BCC is the most common type of skin cancer and the most diagnosed cancer in the United States.

BCC usually develops on skin that gets repeated sun exposure, such as on the head, neck, back of the hands and, most commonly, on the face. While BCC often develops on skin that has had the most sun, BCC can appear on any part of the body.

Basal Cell Carcinoma is a highly treatable form of skin cancer. It grows slowly and rarely spreads to other parts of the body. Treatment is important because it can grow wide and deep, destroying skin, tissue, and bone.

Chelsea Skin & Laser will diagnose basal cell carcinoma and confirm the findings by way of a small biopsy. How we treat basal cell carcinoma is based on the size, type and location of the lesion. We may recommend topical chemotherapy, immunomodulating cream, cryosurgery, electrodessication and curettage, surgical excision, or we may refer you to a specialized surgeon for Mohs surgery.
