How long will the treatment last?
Most patients treated with Radiesse should look for a correction that lasts around 12 months.
What areas of the face are normally treated?
Typical treatments include: smoothing and contouring of smile lines or nasolabial folds, wrinkles
at the corners of the mouth, acne scars, facial defects or depressions, restoring volume in and
around the cheeks, and correcting asymmetric features.
Does the treatment hurt?
A topical anesthetic is used to reduce pain associated with this treatment. We recommend you
arrive 30 minutes prior to your appointment to apply anesthetic ointment. There is mild
tenderness at the site of injection for approximately 48 hours. Tylenol can be taken for
discomfort.
Are there any lingering effects of the treatment and when can I return to my normal
activities?
There is minor inflammation and swelling from the treatment. This normally resolves within 24
hours, but has been reported to last as long as 72 hours. Makeup can be applied immediately
after to cover any minor bruising or redness. Most patients can resume normal activities a few
hours after receiving treatment. Application of ice intermittently for a short period of time after
the treatment will help reduce swelling.
What is Radiesse made of?
Radiesse consists of tiny microspheres of a synthetic material called calcium hydroxylapatite
that is combined with a common hydrogel used in a vast array of products. The product is
naturally compatible with the body and requires no skin testing prior to injection.
Will Radiesse become hard, calcified or noticeable to touch?
Immediately after treatment there is temporary swelling and firmness lasting on average two
weeks, thereafter, it will soften and take on the characteristics of the surrounding tissue. .
How safe is Radiesse?
It is FDA-approved for correcting moderate to severe facial folds and wrinkles. The components
have been used for over twenty years in other specialties of medicine. There have been minor
complications reported by some patients where lumpiness or small nodules have occurred after
treatment. Complications of this nature have normally resolved within two months.
What should I discuss with my doctor prior to considering enhancement?
If there is any history of herpes on the face we recommend taking an oral antiviral pill prior to
your treatment. Bruising risks are increased with the regular use of aspirin, alcohol, blood
thinners, or any alternative medicine supplementation (ginko, garlic, ginsing).
