Voluma Information

Voluma

Juvederm Voluma is a lifting product as opposed to a line filler. Voluma is used to bring structure to the cheeks, cheekbones and fullness to the temples. It’s a clear, biodegradable gel containing hyaluronic acid also found in Juvederm, Juvederm Ultra, Ultra Plus, Voluma, Volbella, Vollure, Restylane, and Belotero.

Voluma has long lasting effectiveness shown to last up to 2 years in some patients. Usually, more than one syringe or treatment is needed to achieve desired result. Repeat treatments are necessary to maintain results.

The most common side effects include, but are not limited to, temporary injection-site reactions, redness, pain/tenderness, firmness, swelling, lumps/bumps, bruising, itching, and discoloration. Some people experience symptoms for up to 1 month. As with all skin injection procedures, keep the area clean and protected to avoid any risk of infection. Do not use Voluma if allergic to lidocaine.

We ask patients to arrive 30 minutes prior to their appointment to apply a topical anesthetic ointment for their comfort. Topical numbing is recommended. There is a lidocaine in the product, please alert your practitioner if you have an allergy to lidocaine. There will be some tenderness at the site of injection for approximately 48 hours. Tylenol can be taken for discomfort.

Minimize strenuous exercise and exposure to extensive sun or heat within the first 24 hours following treatment. These include gym, yoga, dance classes, running, sauna/steam, tanning. Application of ice intermittently for a short period of time after the treatment will help reduce swelling.

Tell your practitioner if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant or breastfeeding, have had or plan to have surgery or cosmetic treatments on the lower face, neck, or chin, have or have had recent medical conditions including any type of infection in or near the neck area, trouble swallowing, bleeding problems or are taking blood thinners.

Bruising risks can be minimized by avoiding aspirin, Advil, Aleve, Motrin, ibuprofen, ginkgo biloba, ginseng, concentrated garlic and alcohol for one week prior to treatment.

Avoid dental work, including teeth cleaning, at least 2 weeks prior and one month following treatment. Avoid oral surgery at least 4 weeks prior and one month post treatment.
